(Greenville, N.C., Jan. 8, 2016)Golden LivingCenter – Greenville Executive Director Hal Garland has been appointed to the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (NCBENHA) by Governor Pat McCrory.

This is Garland’s third appointment to the Board, serving from 2003-2009, and 2011-2014.  Garland has served under three governors beginning with Gov. Mike Easley in 2003.  Previously, Gov. McCrory appointed Garland to the North Carolina Medical Care Commission in 2014, serving until Dec. 2015.

The purpose of the Board of Examiners is to assure the public that all licensed nursing home administrators meet the qualifications and the standards for licensure as established by the Nursing Home Administration Act rules and regulations. The board also monitors continuing education courses and encourages sponsors to provide courses for license renewal.

“I am honored and grateful again for the opportunity to work with other board members to ensure the highest standards in the licensure of nursing home administrators,” Garland says. “Having over 34 years of experience in senior living, I have seen how continuing education courses and providing resources to nursing home administrators have made a difference in how we serve our seniors and within our industry in our state.”

“Hal is a mentor, teacher, and administrator and has received many awards for his dedication and passion to serve and influence future nursing home administrators,” says Jane Baker, Executive Director of the Board. “With his years of experience as a Board member and as a licensed administrator, he provides an enormous amount of industry knowledge and education.”

Garland has worked for Golden Living for 34 years and has served as the Executive Director for Golden LivingCenter - Greenville since 1988. He is a member of the Exam Writing Committee with the National Association of Boards and a member of the East Carolina University Masters of Public Health Program Community Advisory Board.

Garland’s passion for teaching led to the partnership with East Carolina University and the Brody School of Medicine that has made the Golden LivingCenter – Greenville the only teaching nursing home in the state of North Carolina. To date, nearly 1,100 healthcare professionals have attended the teaching program.

Golden LivingCenter - Greenville provides quality healthcare for up to 152 patients and residents including those needing skilled nursing and rehabilitative care.
