Dr. Al Barber has been with Golden Living for almost four years
as a director of pharmacy. He is responsible for optimizing
pharmacy and consultant pharmacy services with our contract

states. He also works on the corporate-level developing
programs that promote education to the Golden Living staff on
medication, and proper medication use.
Dr. Barber is President-Elect of the American Society of
Consultant Pharmacists, and a preceptor for the ASCP Pain
Management Traineeship held twice a year in Cleveland, Ohio.
He has lectured extensively to nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and
other healthcare providers on medication use in the elderly and the
cost-effectiveness of drug therapy.
Working with medical, nursing, and other professionals to
optimize outcomes related to medication therapy is one of the
things he finds most rewarding about his role at Golden Living. Dr.
Barber also enjoys working with both the clinical and operational
management at Golden Living to help improve communication and
collaboration among the two groups, and with our contracted
providers. "Effective communication and multidisciplinary
resident-centered care processes are the key drivers to providing
excellent care to our patients and residents," says Dr. Barber. He
values the exchange of the varying perspectives he has with other
resident care, team members at Golden Living.
Dr. Barber holds Bachelor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy
degrees from Ohio Northern University. He also has an M.A. in
Economics from Kent State University. He is Board Certified
in Geriatric Pharmacy and a fellow in the American Society of
Consultant Pharmacists. His major research interests include
the cost-effectiveness of pharmacy products and clinical consulting
services, and the recognition and prevention of drug-related
problems in at-risk populations.
